Centuries of stories between stone and wind: the living memory of Masseria Panareo

Masseria Panareo is a witness to centuries of history, a place where nature and culture intertwine in a timeless tale. Founded in the Middle Ages as a refuge for Basilian monks, it still preserves traces of their rupestrian settlement, made up of caves dug into the rock and
ancient inscriptions.

Having become a defensive garrison against Saracen raids in Norman times, the masseria was enriched with watchtowers and underground oil mills, symbols of a past of industriousness and strategy. In the 18th century, the De Marco family transformed it into a refined rural residence, keeping its authentic spirit intact.

Beyond the walls, life flowed to the rhythm of harvests and peasant festivals, when the land bore its fruits and the community gathered under the Salento sky. Today, every stone of Panareo tells this story, welcoming guests to a place suspended between memory and beauty, where the charm of the past meets the comfort of a timeless welcome.
